Longidi Igbo War Music – ‘Gbo Gan Gbom’: Flavour N’abania

‘Gbo Gan Gbom’ is my inspiration I’m taking with me into this week.

I call it ‘Igbo war music’. It’s so enchantingly powerful, with the Igbo staple instruments of ekwe, udu, ichaka and more.

This songs is filled with the spirit, passion and not to mention pecks of a thousand okorobias [young men]. It just makes you ready to go instantly.

Flavour is killing me with this track as usual.

My favourite line:

“Gi me tu mu aki ma ewre nma he wa gi isi. I bu nwa oye.”

Translation:

“Dare me and you shall be slain. [Who’s son are you?] How very dare you!”

Flavour’s Hook:
Obu onye mere ihe na ada
(nwanne ooooo) eyii
Obu onye mere ihe na ada
Na nje ooooo! na nje!
Nwa nnunu no ngigi egwu emewe
Anyi ejewee, Anyi apuwa
Ijele nwa n’igbo na egwu emewe
Achara ugo nwanyi ngwa gbarum egwu
Makana igbata ofuma egburu ewu
Mbelede ka Eji ama dike oo eyi!
Bicycle na enwero brake na agba ajo oso
Anyi ejewe, Anyi ejewe
Abe aputara ihe emewe
Abe aputara ana edege
Imazi kwa na ihe erike

Translation:
Who made this sound
(My brother)
Who made this sound
Let’s gooooo! Let’s go!
Once a bird hears this, Dance has begun
We have taken off, we have gone out
Take it to an Igbo native, and Dance begins
Beautiful Woman dance for me
Because if you dance well, we’ll kill you a goat
Accomplishing the impossible is the mark of a strong man
Bicycle without brake runs fast
Let’s go, let’s go
Once we step out, Something happens
Once we step out, they jubilate
Do you know that things are out of hand?

Have a listen, and make this your war music to battle any situation that seems impossible.

Go ahead and slay the week.
